Church Involvement

As an individual church member, try to identify others at your church who share your pro-life beliefs.  Bring up the subject with your friends or companions in bible study or fellowship group. Talk to your pastor.  If he has not been preaching about abortion, share with him a helpful article from the Equal Rights Institute called “What Pastors Need to Know about Abortion.” If he responds that he is interested in speaking out about abortion (or he already is), refer him to this page and the information below. Inform him about the closest pregnancy center, post-abortion healing ministries, and even help with ideas for sermons from The Good Shepherd Project. Assure him that you and your friends are willing to help with pro-life action in the church to support women. Information about Respect Life Committees will give you ideas of how you can help.

As a pastor, THANK YOU for your willingness to speak out to help women -and men – to avoid the consequences of abortion. Learn more about abortion, its consequences, and other related issues under our Basic Information pages. See more information for pastors here on our website. . There is a wide variety of possible ways to support your occasional sermon on abortion. One simple thing to do is to include prayer intentions for women and their partners who are in difficult circumstances and may be pressured to abort, that they will find the support they need to help them choose life. Publish the existence of OptionLine.org and the local pregnancy center as first-line resources for women in difficult circumstances. Also include a prayer intention for men and women suffering after abortion to find forgiveness and healing in Jesus Christ. Please publicize local opportunities for post-abortion healing and consider hosting such a program. See below for more active possibilities to speak out publicly, support the local pregnancy center, or invite pro-life church members to form a Respect Life Committee to help you to educate members and organize cooperation with outside activities such as mentioned below.

Consider inviting your members to participate in events such as Life Chain. Find out more about Life Chain, and find locations below. Local pro-life organizations may also sponsor Stand and Pray or 40 Days for Life programs outside abortion facilities.

Consider attending the gala or vision dinner for the local pregnancy center, or arrange for the church to participate in a fundraiser for them. Many pregnancy centers use a Baby Bottle Boomerang campaign at local churches to raise funds. Click on the buttons below for more information.
