Abortion Pill Reversal
Abortion Pill Reversal
When a woman discovers she is pregnant, and faces significant difficulties, she may panic and see no way out. She may also be encouraged to abort by her partner, parents, or friends, and so goes ahead with a medication abortion. But after taking the first pill, and the pressures are gone, she may immediately think “What have I done!?” and deeply regret her choice. Fortunately, it is possible to reverse the effect of the abortion pill. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has claimed that Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) is “unproven and unethical” and “not supported by science”. But the truth is that over 7,000 babies have been saved by APR. Heartbeat International and the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs (AAPLOG) sponsor the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN) of over 1,000 healthcare professionals ready to immediately act to save babies.
How does it work? The first abortion pill contains Mifepristone, which blocks the action of Progesterone, which is necessary to maintain the uterine lining. After a few days, the embryo will die, unable to absorb nutrients from the mother. The second pill, taken 1 – 2 days after the first, will cause contractions to expel the child from the uterus. However, large amounts of natural progesterone, (identical to the hormone found in the body) can overcome the effects of the mifepristone, and save the baby. APR is clearly based on science. Progesterone has been used for decades to help prevent miscarriages. The procedure has a 64 – 68% success rate if begun within 3 days. The success rate is probably higher if the administration of progesterone is begun sooner. There is no evidence of mifepristone causing birth defects, and progesterone has been used safely for many years.
The American Association of Pr0-Life OBGYNs (AAPLOG) has a 20-minute video explaining APR and countering the myths that are being spread about the procedure.
