On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court annoiunced their opinion in the Dobbs case, to reverse Roe v. Wade. They clearly affirmed that there is no constitutional right to abortion, allowing states to regulate abortion as they wish.
On July 26, the final judgment of the Dobbs case was announced. The Texas "trigger law" to ban abortion in Texas will go into effect 30 days after that date, which is Aug 25. However, the Texas Supreme Court ruled on July 1, that Texas could enforce the 1925 abortion ban still on the books. Texas Alliance for Life has informed us that "All 23 abortion facilities in Texas have already closed indefinitely. Meanwhile, Texas has 350 pregnancy centers, maternity homes and adoption agencies to provide free services to women with unplanned pregnancies." Planned Parenthood states that Planned Parenthood will remain open in Texas and help refer women to other states where abortion is still legal. The closest Planned Parenthood offering abortion is over 500 miles away from Houston, in Wichita, Kansas.
Houston Coalition for Life has announced its plan to once again sponsor a prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood at 4600 Gulf Freeway, as part of the upcoming 40 Days for Life campaign from Sep 28 to Nov 6, 2022. Christian Voices for Life will soon announce which days CVL will sponsor.
